Presentation Synopsis

A skillfully edited art book created with the participation of the artist himself in both content (illustrations and texts, arrangement of the catalog on the page, selection of drawings) and form (selection of materials: 135 gr. glossy paper of a white compatible with the watercolors; cover design grey, with large grey lettering, and a dust jacket with a reproduction of his work Laboratorios Jorba, better known as La Pagoda, a building demolished in 1999).

The text presents and analyzes Miguel Fisac’s work on paper, and relates, in first the person, the biography of the artist and his experience as an architect. It contains  graphic and written references to most of the Spanish autonomous communities, in many of which  (Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, País Vasco, La Rioja, Comunidad Foral de Navarra, Castilla y León, Cataluña, Comunidad Valenciana, Extremadura, Murcia, Comunidad de Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, Andalucía, Baleares y Canarias) he designed works, and to his travels in numerous countries of the five continents.

Miguel Fisac (Daimiel, Ciudad Real, 1913-2006), one of the most representative architects in contemporary Spanish history, received, among other distinctions, the Gold Medal of Religious Art in Austria (1954) and the Camuñas Prize (1996), and in 2002, he was awarded the National Prize for Architecture.

This book reveals one of the least-known facets of this architect, painter, sketcher, and also writer: his drawings, more than 400, cataloged for the first time and all of them reproduced in color, appear in this work. They are accompanied by comments of the artist himself, who, with his capacity for analysis and his direct, expressive language, transmits to the reader an incomparable testimony.

This is a journey through Fisac's life, the narration of his professional experience, of his passion for architecture, of his opinion on the work of Le Corbusier, Wright, or Mies van de Rohe, and also of his relations with other artists such as Pablo Serrano, Oteiza and Chillida, all through the eyes and in the voice of Fisac himself.

The book, which enjoyed the kind collaboration of the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha, includes an additional text by the architect Francisco Arques Soler, an expert in Miguel Fisac, and is presented together with a CD containing the conversations that took place between Fisac and the author of the book, Paloma de Roda Lamsfus, between 2002 and 2005.

Readers interested can request the translation available in English, wich includes:
